One Small Step

One Small Step has been revived for the fourth time, and is touring to outdoor venues, performing in a tent. This is exciting, as next year, 2019, will see the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, and this tour must be preparing for that.

One Small Step has been revived for the fourth time, and is touring to outdoor venues, performing in a tent. This is exciting, as next year, 2019, will see the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, and this tour must be preparing for that. I am sitting with the cast, Robin Hemmings and Shae Rooke, in the car park of Blenheim Palace, whilst we wait for the tent to be put up, and the set built. We have already been waiting two hours for key people to arrive, and it is clear that we will be waiting for a while yet.

As we sit, cutting out cardboard stars, we chat about whether there is a better way to do this. We all have experience of theatre organisations being too slow and cumbersome to be able to jump on exciting opportunities. We all have many ideas for new projects, but no one to develop them. And we all like working together.

Maybe we should, you know, perhaps, one day, form a theatre company? The seed is sown, and when we learn later that year that One Small Step won’t be touring in 2019, Roustabout is born.
